Republicans commited a Hit and Run. (video)
This is a new DSCC ad. It is an excellent ad that you should spend 30 seconds on.

Congestion Pricing - IBM ad
This is IBM's commercial regarding congestion pricing and how it helps traffic flow and improves energy efficiency. I have read quite a bit about congestion pricing in various blogs and am glad to see IBM bringing the concept mainstream.

Cheney Endorsed McCain (Ad)
Classic. I like the light-hearted music. It also shows the Obama campaigns mastery of the snark. For more snarky Obama moments, check out Steve Benen

Obama's primetime 30 minutes
Very impressive piece. I know that I felt better after watching it. It is a tale of American stories and American solutions. I continue to be amazed at Obama's presence and skill at story telling.
Watch it if you missed it.
UPDATE: edited to fix video link
New Obama Ad
Looks to me that Obama has decided that the undecided need a bit of reminding about Republican's and Economics. This ad uses McCain's words against him and ends with a shot of Palin. Brutal.
Charles
This is a very powerful video featuring Charles an Obama Volunteer. His opening statement is great "I lived through the great depression, I have been a Democrat all my life, because I saw what Roosevelt did when he first come into office. My mother would have lost her farm, we would have lost everything we had if it hadn't been for President Roosevelt."
It is an amazing piece.

I like the imagery. Simple, powerful, evocative.

Great Video
This is a four minute piece featuring lifelong conservatives who are voting for Obama. Check it out.

cool video
This is an Ad from Pearl Izumi but you wouldn't know it, quite subtle. Watch it, it is very cool. They do ignore the higher speeds and performance of recumbents but hey, you can't get perfection.

Obama Ad
I haven't been as good at putting Obama ads up as I was earlier. I found this one pretty effective. It hits McCain where it hurts, the truth. He is erratic, confused and compromised, he isn't on YOUR side.

Post Debate Obama ad

An interesting image, that shows how uncomfortable McCain was during the last debate.
Obama's organization is just top notch. His team moves fast and decisively when it is time. Check out the ad.

Obama preempts McCains next step
McCain's campaign has publicly stated its plans to go on the attack. The goal is to use already discredited attacks such as association with Rev Wright, Ayers, and Tony Rezko to make Obama look guilty by association. Unfortunately for Republicans, most of their case against Obama is smoke and mirrors. Where if Obama hits back on the same subjects, Ms. Palin does seem to have a terrorist problem of her own, Todd Palin and the AIP. McCain's association with corruption is more stark, the Keating 5 and a history if intervening with regulatory agencies on behalf of lobbyists. One of those lobbyists, Vicki Iseman, comes with attach rumors of an illicit affair.
I personally think a detour into guilt by association is a non-starter with such substantive issues in play. The economy is front and center right now. I don't think McCain can make enough noise to drown it out. Obama's pre-emptive attack on this ploy strikes me as a good idea. For another example of how Democrats are dealing with negative and untrue attacks see this ad by Al Franken's team.

Obama hits McCain using McCain's own methodology
quoting Steve Benen at Washington Monthly
The McCain campaign loves to say that Barack Obama "voted 94 times for higher taxes." It's a staple of McCain/Palin stump speeches; it's in the campaign's attack ads; it's on the lips of every surrogate. Palin even repeated the line three times during Thursday's debate.
They're lying, of course, and they know it. In order to come up with the number, McCain & Co. have to play some pretty ridiculous games. If, for example, Obama voted against a tax cut, then that counts as voting for higher taxes. If Obama voted for lowering taxes for some by closing tax loopholes for others, then that counts as voting for higher taxes, too. If Obama voted for non-binding budget resolutions, then that counts as voting for higher taxes.
True to form, McCain/Palin made the claim, it was debunked, and they kept repeating the discredited attack anyway. That is, of course, what they do, and it helps make a distinction between mistakes and lies.
But instead of just hammering the Republican ticket for lying, the Obama campaign had another idea: what if we counted John McCain's tax-related votes and use John McCain's standards for tax increases?
The results were interesting, to put it mildly. According to McCain, Obama voted 94 tax increases since 2005. Using the same methodology, McCain voted for 105 tax increases since 2005. The Republican ticket has some trouble with math, but the last time I checked, 105 is a bigger number than 94.
What's more, taking this one step further, McCain, using his own standard, has voted for 477 tax increases over the course his lengthy congressional career.
As far as I can tell, this is just a web video, not an ad the Obama campaign plans to put on the air. In a way, that's a shame -- if voters keep hearing the "94 tax increases" lie, the "477 tax increases" line may have a certain salience.
The point for me is McCain/Palin lie lie lie. We know that, they are morally bankrupt (how fitting). But when using their own methodology of attacks they look so pitiful. Really, is that campaign run by morons? I know, redundant, neo-cons are morons. I am finding that it is getting hard to distinguish the evil geniuses from the morally bankrupt morons from the power hungry and stupid theocrats from the delusional moronic followers. Unfortunately for Republicans everywhere, they suffer the same problem and have promoted too many spear carriers into positions where they make decisions.

New ad based on debate coverage
I watched part of the debate last night and have been catching up by looking at recordings of the debate, I find it easier when I have the ability to FF/RW/Pause (gratuitous DVR plug).
Watching the debate gave me a ton of respect for Biden. The more I see him speak the more I like him. His FISA stance is bad, but I like almost every other policy position he takes. During the debate I likes his maverick take-down and his "ultimate bridge to nowhere" dig. The second has been made into this ad below.

Planned Parenthood attack ad
I like to cover the ads. I don't get to see them and neither do my neighbors, we live in a state considered safe, Washington. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the feeling that McCain gets all the coverage and runs all the ads. The national media loves to play McCain ads, even those with limited or non-existent ad buys.
But there are Obama ads and they play in battleground states. This one is from Planned Parenthood which is notable for a couple reasons.
- It is not from the Obama campaign. The 527s are loose now. Obama has backed off his stance that the 527s should not attack McCain. He can't coordinate directly but he signaled and Planned Parenthood and NARAL both heard that signal.
- It is a good ad and it paints McCain as the villain he is, an opportunistic villain who has a record of voting against children issues.
I am glad to see this ad, and hope to see more like it. Let loose the hounds of truth!
More Campaign ads
This is an ad from the Obama compaign. It reminds us that McCain entered the Senate in 1982 and hasn't changed since then. I like it, the hit on not using a computer and not being able to email resonates with me, but some others say they don't love it. Let me know what you think.
This one is Obama addressing what Change means to him and for the US in this short ad piece. Nice, simple, powerful. I like the 1982 ad better but most seem to like the Change ad more.
Finally we get to a new McCain ad. This ad is typical McCain, full of lies.
The truth of the matter is that Sarah Palin IS LYING . That is why the quote in the ad shows "... is lying..." so that the context didn't betray the facts.
McCain - Campaign of Lies
I am going to quote FDL
- Lies.
- Distortions.
- Untruths.
- Deceptions.
- Dissembling.
- Misstatements.
Out-of-context snippets.
Andrea Mitchell: "That literally is not true."
Joe Klein: "...Senator Honor's daily lies and bilge--his constant attempts to divert attention from substantive issues..."
Jonathan Martin: "factually shaky"
Joe Garofoli: "Now McCain is lying about Factcheck.org."
Newsweek: "why kick off your campaign with an ad that's full of falsehoods?"
John Sidney McCain III is not running an honorable campaign. It's an unpatriotic campaign. It's a dishonest campaign. Every ad his campaign has put on the air since his convention has been untrue. The campaign is full of untruths, distortions, and lies. He knows he can't win a campaign based on the truth, so he lies to the American people to win.
Haven't we had enough lies? Haven't we had enough?
Have you had enough?
The time for this to end is now. We need to all be aware of his falsehoods and call him on it every time.

Observations
First things first - check out this segment; Ari Melber from the Nation takes down Brad Blakeman regarding the McCain attack on Barack Obama regarding educating 5 year olds on Stranger Danger aka sexual predators. I was pretty impressed how this went down.
Secondly, I stole this image from Ezra Klein.

As Ezra Klein states, this is the primary solution that Sarah Palin and McCain propose. How the heck is the yellow area in the graph going to help anything?!?
Now we get to the Dept of the Interior scandal. Huge mess right now, still more news to come out of this. But emptywheel skimmed through the data dump and found yet more instances of Murkasey declining to prosecute real crimes. In this case sexual assault of a subordinate. Come on now, this is beyond the pale. Murkasey is shaping up to be the worst AG pick yet of the Bush years. Read emptywheel's take on this here
More details on the Dept of Interior mess here at dailykos. There is a lot of corruption at the Dept of Interior, and much much more will come out of this. Thinkprogress has a lot of data on it as well. It is too much to handle in one post alone.
On to more happy news. Checkout this ad from the Obama campaign.
It hits McCain hard on Education. Great ad, hope to see it play strongly.
That's all for now. I am looking for more videos to post as I like to see the ads from Battleground states since I live in WA, relatively safe territory that no-one is fighting over.

Nice Obama Ad
This is what I have been wanting to see. Hard hitting, direct, accurate.
